Some business interest groups in the US and human rights activists may argue that the removal of footwear tariffs should be made conditional on Vietnamese firms’ compliance with internationally recognised labour standards. Discuss whether Michael Froman should accept this argument provided that he decides to eliminate tariffs against Vietnamese footwear. Your discussion should include, but not be limited to, the following points:
 Why business interest groups in the US and human rights activists would support the same argument
 Which ethical approaches business interest groups in the US and human rights activists would be taking in their arguments

Assessment Task:  Business reports are practical learning tasks where students apply the theories they have been studying to real world situations. The students are required to select a topic, collect information (Primary and/or secondary) and prepare a report describing a business problem or incident. This report should consist of (not inclusive) Abstract, Introduction, Objectives, Methodologies, Information Analysis, Findings, Recommendations, References, and Appendices.

ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION: This is an ongoing group assignment that students need to carry out between week 4 – 11. Students will be formed as groups (3-4 students) by the lecturer between week 3 and 4. Students MUST enroll into a group within this time frame in order to participate in this assignment task. Group vacancies will NOT be guaranteed for late comers.

Students need to write a business report by doing a mini survey on a good statistical question from an approachable population. Group members need to follow the steps given bellow.

Get the approval for the survey title and the population from your lecturer

Prepare a survey questionnaire under the supervision of your lecturer with 10 questions (need to include both qualitative and quantitative questions)

Collect data from a randomly selected sample of 20 respondents (sample size = 20) from the proposed population and transfer them into an excel sheet

Finally, the data set must be summarised, analysed and reported according to the format given below

Reporting Format –

1. Title page

Design a title page with an appropriate name for your business report, student name and student ID

2. Executive summary

Here you need to summarise the whole report findings into a smaller paragraph (need to do at the end)

3. Table of contents

Table of contents needs to be generated electronically in Microsoft Word.

4. Introduction

Give a brief introduction about your population and aims and objectives of the report.

5. Method of data collection

Briefly describe about your questions, nature of your variables, who are your respondents, sampling strategy and how did you collect data. Include your data set in a form of table with this section or as an appendix.

6. Summary of the data set

Give appropriate graphical and numerical summaries that describe your variables (Microsoft Excel can be used for this task). Also provide a brief discussion under each of your data summaries based on your judgments and compare your results with similar studies.

7. Descriptive data analysis

Select any three numerical variables from your data set and prepare a summary of descriptive statistics using Microsoft Excel for each of them. Interpret your key findings (mean, variance and standards deviation etc) and provide justifications with a brief discussion supported by appropriate references.

8. Interval estimation

Calculate the following parameters for each of the three numerical variables you selected in section 7.

The margin of error at a 95% confidence level

Construct a 95% confidence interval for your population mean

Interpret your findings and provide justifications with a brief discussion supported by appropriate references.

9. Conclusion and recommendations

Provide a brief overview of your collective findings and previous discussions in the report. Finally, provide several recommendations by connecting to your aims, objectives and overall findings.

10. List of references

Minimum five references are required for this assignment task.

Scenario

You are Grace Park, an analyst for BI Intelligence. BI Intelligence is the Business Insider's paid research service. Business Insider is the world's fastest-growing business news website and its articles include the latest technology, money and market news. BI Intelligence produces a number of reports on key digital areas, including the mobile industry. Information from those reports is then subsequently published on the Business Insider's website by their respective writers.

Michelle Yeoh, a tech journalist at Business Insider, wants to publish an article on the current smart mobile phone usage in Australia. This is in light of Australia being ranked 2nd in the world behind Singapore for smart phone usage. Businesses, including telcos, find this information useful and subsequently use it to improve their own operations, marketing strategies, etc., for the digital age. Michelle's article will be wide ranging and include commentary on the user's expenditure, usage patterns and demographics. Michelle has asked you to conduct the market research.

You subsequently take a random sample of 150 smart phone users in Australia and survey them on their usage, as well as other related data.

Michelle's specific analysis requirements are outlined in his email, which is reproduced on the next page.

Memorandum Requirements

Your Memorandum should be no longer than 2000 words and there is no need to include a Table of Contents, Charts and Tables, or Appendices in the Memorandum. The Charts/Graphics and Tables you create are only to be placed in the Data Analysis file i.e. the Excel spreadsheet

Suggested Word formatting for the Memorandum: Single-line spacing; no smaller that 10- point font; page margins approx. 25mm, and good use of white space

Your Memorandum must have a cover sheet containing your particulars and Unit details Set out the Memorandum in the same order as in the originating Memorandum from Michelle, with each section (question) clearly marked

Use plain language and keep your explanations succinct. Avoid the use of technical or statistical jargon. As a guide to the meaning of “Plain Language”, imagine you are explaining your findings to a person without any statistical training (e.g. someone who has not studied this unit). What type of language would you use in this case?

Data Analysis Instructions/Guidelines

In order to prepare a reply to Michelle's Memorandum, you will need to examine and analyse the dataset MobileData.xlsx thoroughly.

Michelle has asked a number of questions and your Data Analysis output (i.e. your charts/tables/graphs) should be structured such that you answer each question on the separate tab/worksheet provided in your Excel document. There are also three extra tabs in MobileData.xlsx called CI, HT and SS and you can use the various templates contained in these tabs in your “Confidence Interval”, “Hypothesis” and “Sample Size” answers.

Task 0 – Setting up
Create an ePortfolio page for your assignment. You will submit this page to Moodle as per the lab tasks.

Task 1 – Costs of operating the business
Using Excel, create a spreadsheet called operating_costs.xlsx that calculates the projected annual outgoing costs of running Parchment Bonanza.

Your spreadsheet should be configured such that the working hours, hourly rates, and fixed and utility costs can be varied easily.

Task 2 – Sales team offers
Using Excel, process the history of purchases spreadsheet and use appropriate charts to visualize: How the prices paid differed for each staff member; and
How the prices paid have changed over time

Describe your findings in your ePortfolio (approximately 250 words), and attach the Excel file to your page.

Task 3 – Automation
Using Excel, create a spreadsheet page that automates the above process, allowing a member of the team to enter whether the book is hardcover, its publication year, and its condition, and receive a price to offer.

Ensure that you include enough text and formatting to make your spreadsheet usable by a member of the Parchment Bonanza team, or by a University lecturer.

Your spreadsheet should be configured such that the Low, Medium and High prices can be varied easily. Describe how you automated the process (approx 150 words), and attach your Excel file to your ePortfolio.

Task 4 – Price setting
Using Excel and the historical data you have available, determine sets of prices which meet the objectives of the following scenarios:

Scenario one: Total offer prices are approximately the same as for the historical data

Scenario two: Assuming all books purchased are sold, allow all staff to draw the same wage as Caesar.

Describe the strategy you used to find appropriate prices for each scenario (approximately 150 words). Ensure that the Low price is less than the Medium price, and both are less than the High price.

Local Business like restaurants in any nation is focusing on sustainability such as minimal wastage of foods, recycling of wastage and implementing composting methods. They are using 100% material in their products made up of organic components. The local business is promoting healthy lifestyles, eco-friendly goods and conserving water, natural resources and energy etc.

On the other hand, global business like big hotels finds it hard to employ sustainability in their business operations. In shake of corporate responsibility, they usually do some social work and conversation methods for the community. Corporate sustainability is aligned with moral responsibility which can be achieved with the help of employees ‘commitment, supply chain partners, and customers.

Sustainability is the all-encompassing model that embraces people, profits, and the planet by concerning with a business’s stakeholders and maintains social equity, minimizing business’s ecological footprint, and intentional long-term planning for profit margins (Brookshire, 2017).
