Different management styles are suited to different situations. Transformational leadership styles focus on team-building, motivation and collaboration with employees at different levels of an organization to accomplish change for the better whereas transactional leadership styles are more concerned with maintaining the normal flow of operations. My old manager I would say had more of a transactional leadership style. She was always in a meeting and more concerned with how the department made her looked to home office. She was not concerned or engaged with the employees only the number. Whereas my current boss with the new job I can say from being here she has a more of a transformation leadership style. However, she is new to the current position herself and is still learning the ropes of being a manager, but I can tell that she more focused on the long-term success, getting people and systems in place for future growth before she retires in a few years. She spends time coaching, developing, listening, giving individual feedback & encouragement to the department.
